However, recent technology has got me truly excited about the possibilities. Believe me, I could throw my complaints on the heap with the others. Modern Icore processors, 64 bt OS and software, SSD harddrives, motherboards that support over 32 GB of Ram (and its all cheap too) have all combined to virtually eliminate the performance issued that hobbled parametric solid modelers in the past. However, I can say that the days of memory and performance problems have been over for a couple of yrs.
There were times in the past when I was kicking myself for choosing and staying with Autodesk.
I have worked professionally for almost 15 yrs with Autodesk software (inventor for 10 yrs). In fact, inspired me to look for a laser cutter. The 123d suite of products is nothing short of fantastic as far as I'm concerned. They were cutting out the parts from 1/8" cardboard on epilogue machines and people were sitting down at worktables assembling the parts. People were able to walk up to laptops, mess around with a 3d shape, and then output a print file. The review for Autodesk 123D Design has not been completed yet, but it was tested by an editor here on a PC and a list of features has been compiled see below.
I saw this software demonstrated in a lab at the Autodesk conference last week.
Unfortunately, 123d make only runs on Mac OS for the time being. 3D CAD with Autodesk 123D: Designing for 3D Printing, Laser Cutting, and Personal Fabrication by Jesse Harrington Au eBook. material thickness, axis of cutting planes, and the software will generate your print/cut file, and assembly instructions all instantaneously. You can either make layers (topo map style) or make perpendicular cuts (egg crate style). Currently, 123d Make, however, is a fantastic piece of software that will allow you to take any water tight 3d stl object and slice it up for cutting. 123d Beta currently will not do all of the slicing or output print files the way 123d make will. Further your own models can be made available for other users per click.įollowing video explains how a 3D model can be printed with a MakerBot printer.Software design by another company and recently acquired by Autodesk. Thus 3-dimensional figures can be created and edited per touch on the go.ġ23D Make allows to virtually slice 3D models so they can be converted into real objects with e.g. group of Autodesk software, fabrication services for 3D printing and laser cutting, and a on making a wide variety of projects using 3D design and personal fabrication.
allowing makers to easily design things without learning complex CAD concepts. Launching the iPad App 123D Sculpt, Autodesk offers a powerful 3D software for the popular tablet. App Enables 3D Modeling via iPad, Mac, PC or Web Browser. The user can convert real objects into 3D models using an ordinary digital camera. This software allows you to digitalise existing objects. Various modules like 123D Catch, 123D Sculpt, 123D Make and, as of now, 123D Gallery are available for free.
